Isabella Has Taught Me…

1. How much I’m going to adore being a mom. Even the days where there’s either a laundry basket or baby on my hip all day long.

2. Routines do a baby well. Stick with it. They need that consistency.

3. Music is the best thing to soothe a baby AND you at the same time. Fussy baby? Turn up the tunes!

4. Weaning a baby off of bottles is the hardest thing ever.

5. Little ones absorb the personalities of those around them most. I love that Isabella has picked up parts of my personality and made it her own.

6. Even at the youngest age, kids need to be outside. It’s so good for them to look at the sky, sit in the grass and feel the texture, feel the breeze on their little faces.

I haven’t been very good about keeping up with this blog. I am really starting to wish I had too because so many key milestones have happened in the last couple months with Isabella.

She’s now ONE! It didn’t hit me quite so hard until today. I was pushing her around the block in her stroller and had a flashback to the day her mom and I took her with us to her mom’s dentist appointment. She was two months old and so not used to me yet. I remember how little she was in my arms and how careful I had to be with her little, fragile body as she screamed bloody murder. I felt powerless in those beginning days. I had plenty of experience caring for infants. I was an infant teacher at Goddard. I knew how to calm down just about any baby. But for some reason in that first week with Isabella, I felt like I couldn’t. Thank goodness that was only a phase for her. I learned that although it was difficult dealing with her screaming and fighting the bottle every time it was time to eat, through my patience with her, I earned her trust. Yet another way kids teach you life lessons in unexpected ways.

My sweet, little munchkin is almost eleven months! Where did the time go?!

We now have four teeth, are crawling and walking with support, eating solid foods like mashed potatoes, carrots, corn, rice, noodles, etc.! Isabella has mastered the sign for “all done” and does it so cheerfully. A couple weeks ago, she started clapping. She loves singing “If You’re Happy and You Know It”.

I continue to feel so incredibly blessed to be a part of her life and watch her grow and blossom into this feisty, opinionated, sweet, happy little girl. The saying rings true, “sugar and spice and everything nice, that’s what little girl’s are made of”. That’s my Izzy!

We’re working on being gentle with our hands. She is going to be a tom-boy, I just have this huge gut feeling. I don’t think her daddy would mind one bit! She loves to grab our faces and squeeze us as hard as she can. Although it’s not very pleasant for us, it’s Iz’s way of showing us that sweet affection, so we gobble it up! Her baby sister comes in July and we can’t wait to see how Izzy is going to react to another little one in the house.

Everyday with her is a blessing! I love that I get to be such a key part of her life. I am so blessed!

Isabella celebrated her nine month birthday last week. It is absolutely crazy for me to think back to that sleepy little newborn that she was, to the little girl she has grown and blossomed into.

I cannot stress the importance of the developmental growth and appropriate stimulation of infant’s precious little minds in their first year. Studies show that in an infant’s first year of life, their brain grows 35% larger then it was at birth. Babies, contrary to what many believe, are born with all five senses. They possess at birth, the ability to comprehend/understand relationships, emotions, languages, and reasoning. However, it is so vital that babies get the appropriate stimulation to enhance and grow those senses and comprehensions.

Talk with babies-  I hold entire conversations with Isabella. Yes, they are one way conversations with the exception of her sweet baby babble back at me. Many people baby talk. This drives me crazy! If you want your baby to turn one or two..or worse three or four and continue to talk like a baby, then go ahead and keep at that baby talking. Otherwise, talking to babies in your normal, everday voice is perfectly acceptable.

Music- Not only is it incredibly soothing and calming for a baby, it is developing a early understanding of beat, rhythm, and sound. Isabella has been bopping up and down to the beat of any and all music she hears in the house, for about a month now. I absolutely cannot get enough of it. I love that she gets the rhythm and beat and can recognize the difference between music and song verses spoken words.

Texture- I use everything from pudding, to soap bubbles, texture books, bubbles, shaving cream, etc. Obviously these must be supervised carefully at all times. It’s important for babies to use their sense of touching/feeling early and recognize the various textures of many objects.

I’ve been considering starting this blog for some time now. Considering my little Izzy bizzy is nine whole months now and with her baby sister coming quickly, I decided to start documenting and writing about my journey with this precious angel.

I’m not a mom yet, but I feel like God has definitely blessed me with some helpful “mommy-like” ideas and fun, educational baby/kids activities and tips. I will update this blog with stories of me and Iz’s days together, pictures of our fun, what God is teaching me through the blessing of being a part of her first years, and more. I want to get creative with this blogging thing :)

So stayed tuned!
